Single chamber floating bed and double chamber floating bed are both equipment used for ion exchange in the field of water treatment. The following is a specific introduction:
1. Single room floating bed
Structure: It is usually a cylindrical tank as the shell, with an ion exchange resin layer inside, and inlet and outlet devices at the upper and lower ends of the tank. Some single chamber floating beds also have an inert resin layer above the resin layer, usually composed of materials such as white balls. Its function is to prevent broken resin from blocking the filter screen and improve the uniformity of regeneration liquid distribution.
Working principle: During operation, the water to be treated enters from the bottom of the equipment and flows uniformly upward through the lower distribution device. With the force of the rising water flow, the resin layer floats upward in a dense state, forming a so-called "bed forming" state. During the process of water flowing upward through the resin layer, ions in the water undergo exchange reactions with ions on the resin, thereby achieving the goal of removing or exchanging specific ions. The treated water is then discharged from the body through the upper distribution device. After the resin layer fails, stop the water inlet or allow the resin layer to fall freely as a whole through drainage, that is, "falling into the bed". Then, introduce the regeneration liquid from the upper part of the equipment, and the regeneration liquid flows through the resin layer from top to bottom to regenerate and restore its exchange capacity.
Characteristics: The structure is relatively simple, the operation is relatively easy, and it has the advantages of high operating flow rate and less likely to cause layer disorder during regeneration. It can improve the efficiency of ion exchange to a certain extent and reduce the footprint of the equipment. Suitable for situations where the water quality is relatively single and the requirements for ion exchange are not particularly complex, such as situations where a single indicator such as hardness is being treated.
2. Double room floating bed
Structure: A heat exchanger is divided into upper and lower chambers by porous partitions, etc. The upper and lower chambers are filled with different types of ion exchange resins, with strong resins in the upper chamber and weak resins in the lower chamber. Corresponding distribution devices are also installed at the upper and lower ends of each room for the distribution of inlet, outlet, and regeneration liquid.
Working principle: During operation, water enters the lower chamber from the bottom of the equipment, undergoes ion exchange with the weak type resin in the lower chamber, and then continues to flow upward into the upper chamber, where it undergoes further ion exchange reaction with the strong type resin in the upper chamber, thereby achieving better ion removal or exchange. During regeneration, the regeneration solution enters from the upper part of the equipment, first flows through the strong resin in the upper chamber, and then enters the lower chamber to regenerate the weak resin.
Features: It can fully utilize the advantages of large exchange capacity and easy regeneration of weak type resins, as well as the deep treatment ability of strong type resins for ion exchange. Without increasing the number of equipment, it improves the overall efficiency of the exchanger and reduces the consumption of regenerant. But if not handled properly, such as during the regeneration process, problems such as colloidal silica pollution may occur, affecting the effluent quality.
The fundamental difference between a single chamber floating bed and a double chamber floating bed is that the double chamber floating bed has two independent exchange spaces inside, filled with different types of resins, which can perform more complex and efficient ion exchange processes, while the single chamber floating bed only has one resin chamber, with a relatively simple structure and processing process.
